The word libido originates from Latin, in which it means 'lust' or 'desire'. It probably has become a mainstream word ( because libido is one of those incognito terms allowing us to more easily discuss subject matter that we don't always feel comfortable talking about. These days, when people talk about a lack of libido, or the need to increase or boost their libido, they simply talk about a lack of sexual desire, and the need to enhance and boost their levels of physical lust.Factors that can lead to a reduced libido are psychological causes such as stress, depression, loss of intimacy, and distraction. It may also be caused by environmental stress factors such as prolonged exposure to elevated sound levels or bright light. Obesity and being underweight (anorexic) can also lead to a reduced libido. Often weight-loss, or, in the case of being underweight, weight-gain can lead to improvement in terms of increased and enhanced libido. Medications like beta blockers and oral contraceptives can also casue a reduced libido.
